Hot Air Ballooning
Is the early morning sport!

ballooningTo take advantage of these conditions, we will start about 30 minutes before sunrise. You may help, if you like, in the fascinating process of inflating the balloon for your flight and will take about 15 minutes. Once inflated, you will board the gondola and receive a pre-flight briefing from your highly experienced pilot.

As the sun comes up over the Manzano Mountains, the pilot will gently lift off and as you break the bonds of mother earth, you will have started on one of the most romantic and memorable adventures of a lifetime. As we fly down the Rio Grande River, you will many times see wild life, including Bobcat, Deer, Ducks, Canadian Geese, Sandhill Cranes and many species of birds.

You might even get to do a “Splash and Dash” in the Mighty “Rio Grande” River. It depends on the wind. Since the balloon moves with the wind, you become one with the wind and you will feel very little motion or movement. It is as if you are sitting still and the world is moving below you.

During the flight your pilot will fly you aloft to get a bird’s eye view of the beautiful Rio Grande Valley. The Monzano Mountains to the East and long extinct volcanoes to the West.

The flight should last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and during this time your pilot will demonstrate the operation of the aircraft and possibly give a little flight instruction.

The chase crew, who will be in constant radio contact with your pilot, will follow the balloon in our 4 wheel-drive vehicle during the entire flight.

As the balloon gently touches down our crew will be there to greet you to pack up the balloon and return to the Arches. You will be served with a complimentary champagne toast and breakfast, which has become a romantic French tradition dating back to 1783.

You will also be awarded with a First Flight Certificate and welcomed into the wonderful world of ballooning.
All this before 10:00 in the morning, leaving the rest of the day to explore New Mexico, “The Land Of Enchantment”.

Ballooning is an outdoor sport activity, so you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in and the type of clothing that you would expect to wear for a walk in the countryside on the day you fly. For women, climbing into the gondola will be very awkward in a dress or skirt. It is strongly recommended that all shoes worn should have flat soles. Please do not wear flip-flops or open-toed shoes.

Absolutely, there is always plenty to photograph both prior to the flight, during and afterwards. You may bring a video camera also. We recommend that you have a suitable soft case, including carry strap, with you to stow and protect the camera during the landing. Bring extra memory cards and batteries. Panoramic cameras are nice for scenery.

We fly Children ages 6 -12 years (children must be accompanied by an adult). Children under 6 years of age are welcome to ride with the Chase Crew during the flight.
